a makeup dilemma

Lately I've been experimenting with my makeup application. I can't remember when was the last time I was so excited about preparing to go out. Previously, my look for going out boils down to wearing the same neutral look. So I will just slap on my regular foundation or tinted sunscreen, then off I go. It doesn't get me excited at all and especially when I'm plagued with a yin yang eyes (one single and another double eyelid) makes me give up on makeup even more. Then I always envy how my friends are meeting me with their glamorous face and posting even more glamorous pictures on FB or Instagram.

Not willing to be left out from the bandwagon, I decided to sign up for a one day personal makeup course with Kawon from Kawon Makeover Academy. It was really pure luck that I encountered her during a good friend's wedding and she was giving me raving review about her. After going through some of her works via the Internet, I decided that I should just get it done and over with. I'm quite proud to say that after attending her course, I'm now even more confident in applying my makeup.

The knowledge that I pick up from there has given me immense interest in wanting to learn more and improve my skill. Of course, with all this renewed interest and skill, one also slowly build back their confidence and that's the wonder of makeup.

Camera really don't do justice to makeup, always washing out all the colors but I think you can see some bits of colors on my lips :) But as you can see I'm still trying to master the art of balancing the size of my eyes currently it's still yin yang eyes *sigh*

So this is it, some of my recent makeup exploration in the past one week. It has been interesting although some frustration may set in but it's all part and parcel of learning the art of make up. Till then.

for wkw shu uemura

Hihi...

Yesterday Mich and I was at a Shu Uemura's launching party at Empire Shopping Center (Subang), it was to launch a holiday collection by Wong Kar Wai (王家衛), a Hong Kong director. One of his more (in)famous movies is In the Mood For Love (花樣年華), if you happen to be a fan of chinese movies.

Anyway there was not much at the (supposedly) party, no food nor door gift. Which was a little disappointing, I was hoping that at least I can get a sample or something but oh well, good thing is they teach us how to apply makeup. That's something that I'm looking forward to the most and of course to also have a good fun with my girlfriend.

These were the items I saw during the launch, I know the collection also includes nail polish but it wasn't there yesterday or rather I didn't notice any. I did pickup a few tips and techniques on putting up a nice makeup so it was quite worthwhile for me as I'm still quite an amateur. After the presentation on makeup application, the instructor gladly did a makeup on my face using a palette of my choice. I went for burning in water palette because I'm attracted by the deep blue pigment.

This is the result of the instructor's demo on me. It took her a mere 10 minutes to get this ready (it could be a lot faster if we hadn't disrupt her with so many why and how... LOL). After I got this look, I realized the blue palette is not the only thing that I'm attracted to but also the gold glitter!

The picture doesn't do justice how bling the glitter is under the lights, I'm using my iPhone for all my picture taking these days. I feel that with the bling, the eyes look a lot brighter and larger. Overall it the eyes seem to have more energy. So, with the knowledge I pick up yesterday, I tried to apply the same technique on myself today and this is what I got.

I feel I still need to work on my technique, seems to me I can get a bit overboard with the darker pigment. There isn't much contrast between the light and dark colors, so it's not quite exactly like the one I had yesterday. But for someone who is starting to learn to pick up the correct way on makeup application, I think I'm quite happy with this. ^_^

lining the eyes (Part 1)

Couple of days ago, I received an eye liner (MAC Liquidlast Liner - Black) sample for review. It's been sitting in my wallet until today I decided to try it out for my Friday night outing. I was full of hope with this eyeliner when I googled that it doesn't smudge easily.

My usual eyeliner application is MAC Blacktrack that comes in a little glass tub which I use an eyeliner brush to apply (from KATE). My brush has a short end and it's easy for me to control the amount of gel I want to use.

But with the MAC Liquidlast Liner's brush I find it hard to control the amount of liner I want to apply to my eyes. So I end up with a very edgy lined eyes. Not a good start I would say and I ended up falling back to my good old liner, using it to correct my mistakes. =_="

Anyway I gotta say that even when I first started using brush, I also went through a rough start and it takes lots of patience and practice to get things done correctly. So I won't eliminate using this liner totally but will try using it again on my next outing, hopefully the next time round I will have better luck.
